Akhmetova Gulnas Kenzhetayevna – Public figure, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor, Honorary Member of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Chair of the Board at JSC “National Center for Professional Development “Orleu”.

In 1974, she graduated with honors from Physics and Mathematics Faculty of the Pavlodar State Pedagogical Institute. Upon completion of Pedagogical Sciences Academy of USSR in Moscow, she has successfully defended a thesis for the academic degree of candidate of sciences. In 2003, she was awarded an academic degree of Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, and in 2004 - academic title of Professor in the field of pedagogy.

Scientific interests of Professor Gulnas Akhmetova focus on theoretical and methodological problems of education, history of its development, theory and methodology of higher education, didactics of higher education and the theory of upbringing, theory and practice of professional development of educators in the Republic of Kazakhstan. She has written more than 200 scientific papers. In 2005, Gulnas Akhmetova became the winner of the republican contest of textbooks and teaching materials. Gulnas Akhmetova is the author of the textbook “Pedagogy” as well as State Compulsory Education Standard in specialization “Pedagogy”. She received the State scholarship for scientists and experts, who have made outstanding contributions to the development of science and technology in Kazakhstan. According to the results of the republican contest for best research in the field of pedagogy, she received two Y.Altynsarin awards: in 2005 – for research in educational best practices, in 2016 – for studying challenges faced by rural schools (co-authorship).

         Gulnas Akhmetova initiated and coordinated several international and republican research projects on challenges in higher education and tailoring educational programs to address real world problems. She was a member of the presidium of the Higher Attestation Commission of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan for awarding academic degrees of doctor and candidate of sciences, chair of the expert commission in specialization “Pedagogy and Psychology”.

She is involved in many social activities as a member of the Political Council of "Nur Otan" Party in Almaty, Deputy Chair of the Commission for Women Affairs, Family and Demographic Policy under the auspices of Akim of Almaty. She also served as the head of “Female Politicians Club”.

For long-term and successful work in the field of science and education, she was awarded a title of "Honoured Worker of Kazakhstan", Order "Kurmet", and medals "For Valiant Labor", "10 years of Independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan", "25 Years of Independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan", “Veteran of Labour” and other awards. She is also the Laureate of Public Recognition of Women Achievement Award "Azhar" in the category "Education". Gulnas Akhmetova was awarded with the badge of the Ministry of Education and Science "Honored Worker of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan" and "For Merits in the Development of Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan."
