K.I. Matyzhanov - Director of the M.A. Auezov Institute of Literature and Art of Committee of Science of MES RK. Doctor of Philology. For his contribution to the development of the spiritual culture of Kazakhstan, he was awarded the honorary title “Honored Figure of the Republic of Kazakhstan” (2007).

 In 2004, he defended his doctoral thesis "The Family-ritual folklore of the Kazakhs", considering the folklore of the Kazakh family tradition and customs as an integral phenomenon and for the first time comprehensively exploring its poetic features and genre system. Kenzhekhan Matyzhanov is the author of more than 200 scientific and popular science articles in domestic and foreign publications on the problems of Kazakh folklore and literature, cultural history, ethnology, museology, language policy. The author of the books “Qazaqtyn otbasy folklory” (“Family ritual folklore of the Kazakhs”, 2007), “Ruhani uyz (Kazakh children’s folklore)” (1995), “Altyn sandyq (Golden chest)” (1996, in co-author.), “Tal besikten zher besikkke deyin (From lullaby to lament. On family-ritual folklore of the Kazakhs)” (1996), “El qazynasy - eskі soz (Samples of Kazakh folklore in the collection of V.V.Radlov)” (1997, in co-author), "Game elements in Kazakh folklore" (1997), etc.

Labour activity of K. Matyzhanov began as a teacher, work experience in the field of science for 35 years. At various senior positions, work experience is 26 years. From 1990 to 1999 he was the Scientific Secretary of the Department of Social Sciences of the National Academy of Sciences, Associate Professor of the Abay Kazakh Pedagogical Institute, employee of the internal policy department of the President’s Office and the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Kazakhstan, deputy chairman of the Committee of Languages under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Kazakhstan, head of the State Language Development Department at the State Committee on National Policy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, consultant on language policy in the department of social and cultural development of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Deputy Director of the Department for the Coordination of Language Policy of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Head of Section on development of languages of the Ministry of Culture, Information and Public Accord.

Kenzhekhan Matyzhanov made a significant contribution to the development of a legislative framework and the formation of the concept of language policy. He was a permanent member of the state terminological and onomastic commissions.

From 1999 to 2005, he worked as Deputy Director for Science at the Central State Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Director of the Museum of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Deputy Director of the Almaty Department of Culture.
