Sholpan Kalykoulovna Akilbekova

Candidate of Technical Sciences, Academician of the International Informatization Academy

Sholpan Kalykoulovna Akilbekova is a Kazakhstani scientist in the field of non-ferrous, rare, and precious metals metallurgy, a specialist in technologies for the integrated processing of mineral and technogenic raw materials, Candidate of Technical Sciences, and Academician of the International Informatization Academy.

She was born on September 8, 1974, in the Republic of Kazakhstan. She received her higher education at K.I. Satbayev Kazakh National Technical University, graduating in 1996 from the Faculty of Metallurgy with a degree in Non-Ferrous Metals Metallurgy and the qualification of metallurgical engineer.

She began her scientific career in 1996 as a research trainee at the Department of Non-Ferrous Metals Metallurgy at K.I. Satbayev KazNTU. From 1998 to 2001, she pursued postgraduate studies (PhD track) in specialty 05.16.02 — Metallurgy of Ferrous, Non-Ferrous, and Rare Metals. In 2011, by decision of the Committee for Control in the Field of Education and Science of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, she was awarded the academic degree of Candidate of Technical Sciences.

Sholpan K. Akilbekova’s professional career for more than two decades has been closely associated with research and teaching activities. She has progressed from a departmental engineer and lecturer to Acting Associate Professor and lecturer at metallurgy-oriented departments.

A substantial part of her academic career is connected with Satbayev University, where she was engaged in the education and training of bachelor’s and master’s students in the fields of non-ferrous, rare, and light metals metallurgy, metallurgical production technologies, and integrated processing of raw materials.

At various stages of her career, she also carried out teaching activities at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. Since 2020, she has been working as a Leading Research Scientist at the Republican State Enterprise “National Center for Integrated Use of Mineral Raw Materials of the Republic of Kazakhstan”, where she conducts research in the field of resource-efficient and environmentally safe technologies for processing mineral and technogenic raw materials.

Sholpan K. Akilbekova’s scientific interests encompass the physicochemical foundations of metallurgical processes, autoclave and leaching extraction of metals, nanotechnologies in metallurgy, processing technologies for gold-, nickel-, cobalt-, and arsenic-containing ores, as well as the environmental aspects of metallurgical production.

She has participated in and led a number of contract-based, grant-funded, and program-targeted scientific and technical projects financed by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, including projects aimed at developing fundamentally new technologies for the integrated processing of polymetallic raw materials (2023–2026).

She is the author and co-author of more than 50 scientific publications, including articles in international journals indexed in Scopus, holds a Hirsch index, and is a co-inventor of patents of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The results of her research have been presented at international scientific conferences and congresses. In 2015, she completed a scientific internship abroad in Prague (Czech Republic) in the areas of “Metallurgy and Foundry Production: Research and Innovations” and “Ecology and Sustainable Development.”

Sholpan Kalykoulovna is also the author and co-author of textbooks and educational-methodological complexes for bachelor’s and master’s students, including Kazakh-language textbooks on the metallurgy of light and heavy non-ferrous metals. She has actively participated in organizing and conducting industrial and pre-graduation training for students at leading metallurgical enterprises in Kazakhstan.

For her contributions to the development of science and higher education, she was awarded the State Scientific Scholarship for scientists and specialists who have made an outstanding contribution to the advancement of science and technology (2006–2008), and she also received the Honorary Certificate of K.I. Satbayev Kazakh National Technical University.

In 2015, she was elected as an Academician of the International Informatization Academy.
