Autobiography

Timur Faridovich Umarov, was born on July 13, 1978 in Tashkent, Uzbek SSR. In 1995, I graduated from a physical and mathematical school № 263 in Tashkent and in the same year entered the program of Multichannel telecommunications at Tashkent Electrotechnical Institute of Communications (TEIC). In 1998, having successfully passed the exams of the Presidential Fund "Umid", I received a scholarship to study the undergraduate program of Computer Science at Northern Arizona University, which I successfully completed in 2001. In the same year I entered the master’s program of Digital Control Systems at Tashkent University Information Technology (formerly TEIC), which I graduated from with honors in 2003. From 2001 to 2004, I worked as a leading specialist of the CIT "Info-fan" of the State Committee on Science and Technology of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

In 2004, I joined Kazakh-British Technical University as deputy dean of the Faculty of Information Technology (FIT). In 2006, having successfully passed the exams of the Bolashak Presidential Fund, I received a scholarship to study for a Ph.D. program at King's College London, which I successfully completed in May 2010, having defended the Ph.D. thesis on the topic of “Analytical Business Computing: Bridging the Semantic Gap between Requirements and Design Using Model Driven Architecture". From August 2009 to May 2018, I held the positions of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and Professor of the Department of Computer Engineering of the Faculty of Information Technologies, Dean of the same Faculty and Vice-Rector for Academic and Information Technologies. From July 2018 to August 2019 I worked as a Director of the Institute of Information and Telecommunication Technologies of Satbayev University (KazNRTU named after K.I.Satbayev). From August 2019 to the present, I work as a Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of the International Information Technology University (IITU).

During my work as the dean of FIT, I supervised and took an active part in the process of accrediting FIT’s programs "Automation and Control", "Information Systems" and "Computer Systems and Software" by the criteria of accreditation agency ABET, Inc. (Baltimore, Maryland, USA). In 2016, we received a clean re-accreditation of the aforementioned programs at ABET until 2023. In 2018, after completing the training, I became a Program Evaluator at ABET in the areas of Computer Science, Information Systems and Information Technology.

In April 2011, I received a grant from the Foundation of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan for implementing a research project on the topic "Development of a model of an enterprise information system based on loosely coupled event-driven business processes." In 2012, the project was successfully completed.

In March 2013 I received a grant from the Science Committee of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan for the implementation of the research project "Development of an information system model for an enterprise by integrating computing modules into the software as a service (SaaS) business model." In 2015, the three-year project was successfully completed.

As a vice-rector for academic and educational activities at IITU, I supervise and manage various activities of faculties, and departments, and the educational process in general. I am a representative of IITU for quality, coordinator of national and international accreditations, and also teach courses for Ph.D. students. On September 29, 2020, I was elected as a full member of the International Academy of Informatization.

I am married and have four children.
