There are several landfills for testing futuristic transport mechanisms. At one of them, the DevLoop training ground, which is located near Las Vegas, a test was held with the participation of two people: Virgin Hyperloop Technical Director Josh Gigel and Customer Relations Director Sarah Lucian. The capsule with them accelerated to a speed of 160 km/h, after which it began to slow down to a complete stop, writes The Verge.
The length of the test track is DevLoop - 500 meters, the diameter is 3.3 meters. According to the company, earlier about 400 tests were carried out on this track, but never before had live passengers participated in them. And although phenomenal speeds have not yet been achieved, the experiment made it clear that traveling on new transport is safe for people.
A XP-2 capsule was used for the test. It was developed with the support of the company of Danish architect Bjarke Ingels and is a reduced copy of what Hyperloop capsules should look like in the future. The capacity of one "car" will reach 23 people.
